Vandalised shop in Dublin
Malicious Damage | Very often assessing the full extent of the loss can prove too difficult for the distressed business owner, especially when the damage includes theft or destruction of the business records.
That is what faced the owners of a supermarket when their shop was broken into and vandalised. Along with food stock, the intruders took the CCTV cameras, the cash registers and the computers.
They also damaged large quantities of stock and wrecked counter tops, shelves, fridges and other equipment.
The stolen computers held the shop’s full inventory and stock list, so the owners had no record to work from when trying to add up what they had lost.
ICS Loss Assessor helps with the malicious damage to property claim
The distressed business owners contacted Insurance Claim Solutions loss assessors and asked for help with the claim. ICS loss assessor carried out a full site damage survey within 24 hours of the call, detailing, photographing, and collecting all of the relevant information required by the insurers.
With no stock records to go on, putting a value on the stolen and damaged goods took time. Working with the loss adjusters, our loss assessor rebuilt the stock position from purchase invoices and whatever sales records were still available.
He also costed the damage to the shop’s fixtures and fittings and worked with the owners’ accountants to put together the Business Interruption Claim.
Business Recovery Plan & Malicious Damage Claim Settlement
Once the loss had been assessed and the supporting documents prepared, our loss assessor set out how the claim would be handled and met the insurer’s loss adjuster.
A recovery plan to get the shop trading again was agreed with the owners, their accountant and their stock and shopfitting suppliers.
From there, our focus was on managing the claim through to settlement. The negotiation was lengthy, but the claim was agreed and the shop reopened.
